EPIC RUN ZA, a social running network managed by Real Makoya, hosted it's fifth run for the year. The "2Cities" run saw 122 social runners making their way to from Centurion and Midrand to Sandton City
After the run briefing and warm up formalities, the group of over 120 runners traversed 18 km from Centurion Mall to Midrand where they were met by Midrand runners to complete a further 17km on to Sandton City, for a total of 35km.
The challenging route was a great way to welcome in Spring, the new running season, as well as training for the Cape Town Marathon.
Runners used the Gautrain to make the 06h15 run briefing and warmup in Centurion
The grueling route tested runners from the very start with a 9% gradient climb within the first 900 meters. The tough route saw a total of 593 meter ascent.
EPIC RUN ZA has more exciting runs between planned between icon landmarks and locations across Gauteng and later Southern Africa. To date, the group has arranged runs between Southgate and Northgate Malls, Mall of Africa to Top of Africa (Transnet Building), Westgate to Eastgate Malls, Alex to Soweto, and now 2Cities - Centurion to Sandton City.
The EPIC RUN ZA social runs cover a minimum of 30 km, and include a registration process to manage numbers, water points, safety vehicles, pace groups, and post run events for runners to interact and share their stories. The runs have also given finishers bragging rights as they are fresh, new, challenging routes.
